Now you are going to develop your bass drum independence by playing some a’s and e’s on the bass drum.

Play eighth notes on your hi-hat counting 1 + 2 + 3 + 4 +

Continue playing the eighth notes but alter your count to 1+ a 2 + 3 + 4 +

Play the bass drum on beat a exactly between the + of beat 1 & beat 2.

Again make sure your right hand eighth notes are steady as they must not slow up to allow a sluggish right foot!

Counting aloud is essential.

Now add bass drums on the + of beat 2 & beat 3.
