Sixteenth Note Bass Drum Independence 1

LESSON 8

Now you are going to double the amount of beats you are playing in the bar from eight to sixteen.

Play eighth notes on the hi-hat slowly counting 1 & 2 & 3 & 4….

Now with your left hand tap the hi-hat between each eighth note.
Remember to keep the spacing even and to keep your right hand at a steady tempo.

Now change your count to 1 e + a 2 e + a 3 e + a 4 e + a…..

NOTE

You are not necessarily playing faster but more beats per bar so try to resist the temptation to speed up when playing sixteenth notes.

Practice playing bars of sixteenth notes followed by bars of eighth notes taking great care to keep your right hand at a constant tempo as this is the hand that is in charge and setting the pace.

Always start playing with your right hand and remember that the 1 2 3 4 and the +’s fall on your right hand and the e’s and a’s on your left hand.
